what is so courageous about
a man who speaks of his past in monotone
voices with no inflection to the present
with no variation on the future?

come home a better man
if you come home at all

courage is not to be given freely
to the man on the street of a foreign land
holding a gun to a pig's head

how patriotic

water washes him up on the beaches of the home front

and the native girls
are so pretty
